KL Marathon: Great response from local and foreign runners

ALTHOUGH the closing date is only March 20, the 2008 Kuala Lumpur International Marathon (KLIM) is getting tremendous support from local and foreign runners.

Federal Territory Amateur Athletics Association (FTAAA) honorary secretary, S. Vegiyathuman said to date, more than 1,000 runners, including 95 foreigners, had confirmed their entry for the March 30 event.

“We have received more than 1,000 local entries as well as 95 foreigners, especially from Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong and Kenya,” he said yesterday.

The FTAAA and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) are the co-organisers of the event, which features 18 categories for both men and women, ranging from the men’s full marathon of 42km to the kids’ run (primary school) of 3 km.

A total RM284,100 in prize money is up for grabs with the winner of the men’s open category receiving RM38,000 while the women’s prize for the same category will be RM25,000.

Vegiyathuman said defending champions, Cyprian Kiogara (men’s category) and Winfridah Kwamboka Nyasikera (women’s category) — both from Kenya — are expected to defend their respective titles. — Bernama
